Paddling Vermont

Creating an online community for paddlers in and around Vermont

The Challenge

When I finally bought a canoe (thanks Covid stimulus!) in 2020, I knew two or three quiet rivers and coves, but after a few paddles I was running out of ideas. Where should I go? Were there places I should avoid? And was there a way to meet other paddlers who might want to go with me?

I looked around for online paddling resources and couldn’t find anything.

The Solution

I created a Facebook page and began telling stories of my own paddling adventures.

For a month or so, it was mostly just me, but I knew: If you build it, They Will Come.

Over time, with strategic links and other growth tactics, I began attracting more and more member paddlers.

Results

Within a year, we’d grown by a thousand percent. Four years later, we’re over 8 thousand members strong, and our engagement is stronger than ever.

Paddling Vermont serves as a vital resource for Vermont waterway information: places to paddle, safety conditions, water quality info, wildlife awareness, and more.

We also provide a place for Vermonters who love paddling to make positive connections with each other.

There’s even a few offshoot groups now, including a meetup community and a dating page.
